John Edwards Trial Opens

A few weeks ago, the jury selection opened for the trial against former presidential and vice presidential candidate John Edwards, who was accused of stealing campaign funds to hide and take care of his pregnant mistress.  After years of denial, Edwards finally admitted that he was the father of his mistress' child.  Edwards has been harshly ridiculed for his affair while his wife was dying of cancer, however, according to a poll 56% of North Carolina voters say a trial is a waste of taxpayer dollars and time.  If convicted, Edwards could face up to 30 years in prison and fines of $1.5 million.
