Petraeus's Fall & Punishment-By-Resignation: Worthy Or Wasteful?

An article posted on November 19, 2012 speaks to the repercussions fallowing sex scandals. The usual accepted response to sex scandals is resignation. What this article attempts to demonstrate is the question of whether or not resignation is ethically sound. The plus side of resigning is that it lessens the publicity of the matter, allows private healing, and it satisfies the public opinion. However, a question that this article brings to our attention is whether or not the leader’s resignation deprives the public of the leader’s abilities and talents? Though a leader’s choice to participate in sex scandals points to his morality, this is a very good point. He may have done wrong in his personal life, but this leader was elected based on his merits, and still possesses the ability to perform his job.
