IBM Settles Civil Bribery Case with U.S. Government

IBM officials in South Korea and China were bribing government oficials in order to procure government contracts. In the late 1990's and early 2000's the IBM employees at the South Korea plant are said to have spent over $200,000 in cash bribes so that the government would buy their products. Also in China they employees had bribed the governement officials with entertainment, vacations, and other improper gifts according to the article. The Washington Post reports that this was discovered becasue of a recent crackdown by the US against firms engaging in overseas bribery. IBM paid $10 million in order to settle this dispute, however never accepted or denied the charges.
