Prerna Arora G’99, MS Computer/Information Science

(08/04/2011) Prerna Arora (photo above) has been promoted to Information Technology Applications Project Leader in the Home Office Information Technology department at the Utica National Insurance Group in New Hartford, NY. According to a company press release, she is responsible for overseeing the implementation of complex information technology systems; evaluating and recommending new information technology tools, technologies and techniques; and providing direction to multiple team members, consultants and internal staff. Arora began her career with Utica National in 2005 as a Senior Programmer in the Information Technology department, and was promoted to Programmer/Analyst a year later. She was named Senior Data Warehouse Developer in 2008, the position she held at the time of her most recent promotion. Her additional advance degrees are master’s of science and master’s of philosophy degrees in physics from Panjab University in Chandigarh, India. Arora is active with the Utica National chapter of Toastmasters International, the Soup for Schools in Africa organization, the New Hartford (NY) Central School District Parent Teacher Association, and the Hartford Players Youth Theater. She and her husband, Surendra Grover, reside in New Hartford, NY, with their two children.

(11/07/2011) Connie Castellano of Frankfort, NY, was featured in the Intuit Small Business Blog on November 7, 2011, for her work with Heart and Soul Events, which produces weddings, corporate events, and other parties. View Intuit blog post

 

Chris Dare ’09, Computer Engineering Technology

(09/28/2011) Chris Dare of Yukon, OK, serves as a Computer Specialist - Senior Information Security Assessor/Project Lead at the Federal Aviation Administration. He wrote: “Along with my current position I am now a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force Civil Air Patrol where I conduct search and rescue and homeland security. I am also pursuing my flying hobby in working on becoming an aerobatic pilot and flying in air shows. I am also a part of the Commemorative Air Force and recently joined a squadron in Oklahoma City and we fly an A-26 Invader which is an old World War II aircraft.”

Lee Einsidler ’78, Business/Public Management

(12/06/2011) Lee Einsidler, CEO of Sidney Frank Importing Company, Inc., the importers of world-famous Jägermeister liqueur, and the creators of Grey Goose vodka, received SUNYIT’s Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award. Einsidler was honored at an Alumni Association-sponsored reception held on December 6, 2011, as part of his visit to SUNYIT’s campus during which he spoke to students in various business classes. Michael Evke ’84, Electrical Engineering Technology

(09/08/2011) Three alumni panelists, including Michael Evke, President and CEO of Eversan Inc., were part of SUNYIT’s fall 2011 Convocation, the ceremony that formally marks the start of the academic year. This year’s Convocation theme was "Innovation and Entrepreneurship," and joining him was event headliner and moderator S. Nasir Ali, Co-founder and CEO of Upstate Venture Connect, and fellow panelists Jo Anne Gagliano, President of edr Companies; Charles Green ‘93, President and CEO of Assured Information Security Inc.; and Robert Hobaica ‘80, President and CEO of RJH Group Inc. "The theme is especially appropriate, given SUNYIT’s mission and our move toward academic-industry partnerships," said SUNYIT President Yeigh. "We're pleased that three of our many successful alumni are returning to campus to share their stories with students and the SUNYIT community.” View event photo

Michael Generali ’77, Criminal Justice

(12/21/2011) Michael Generali wrote: “Things have continued to be busy for me this past year, including the publication of my second book. It is called The Whitechapel Fog and is a novel based on a true, notorious and unsolved crime. Information about the book is available on: www.createspace.com/3688343. Both of my books are available on Amazon.com. A search under my name will bring up both books. I found that Barnes and Noble, along with several other large book sellers have added my first book to their online catalogs. The second should be added there soon… .” As noted in the February 2011 Class Notes, Generali published his first book in 2010, titled Seasons of Fantasies and Dreams, a collection of short stories.

Frank Irizarry ’80, Business/Public Management

(11/23/2011) Frank Irizarry wrote: “I have recently retired (April 2011) as a decorated Detective with the NYPD after 27 years of service.  I've relocated to Denver, NC, and with my wife. I'm living on a golf course and my other hobbies are motorcycling and hunting. I am active with the NYPD 10-13 Club in Charlotte which is an organization for retired police. I have two children, a boy who's studying engineering here in North Carolina and a daughter who is with Sirius Radio in New York City.” Irizarry is shown in the photo above “during the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001, memorial service here in Charlotte with my 10-13 club,” he wrote.

 

Holly Jones ’03 G’05, Health Information Management, MS Health Services Administration

(10/18/2011) Holly Jones was appointed Sponsored Research Specialist in Continuing Professional Education and Sponsored Research on SUNYIT’s campus effective October 11, 2011. In this position she will “offer new support services to assist faculty engage in scholarship and research,” according to a recent announcement. “Jones will also support faculty research initiatives and coordinate research administration and compliance. Her recent 4-1/2 years experience as the IRB Coordinator for Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare will help to strengthen SUNYIT human subjects protection. Holly is a retired Air Force Master Sergeant with 18 years experience in air traffic control. … Her initial projects include coordinating IRB initiatives, registering the SUNYIT IRB for federal wide assurance and enhancing faculty profiles in the Community of Science.” View announcement

Robert A. Payne III G’97, MS Business Management

(10/10/2011) Robert Payne recently joined Dataport Systems, Inc., of Holland Patent, NY. He's also a current SUNYIT adjunct lecturer in the Engineering Technology Department.  Payne and his FIRST®Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics Team, the New Hartford RoboSpartans, spent most of their summer at SUNYIT mentoring at SummerITeens robotics camps and giving STEM presentations. Along with his wife, Lisa Payne ’85, he actively promotes FIRST robotics as a part of the CNYFIRST® volunteer committee at SUNYIT.

 

Michelle Roberts '06, Accounting

(10/06/2011) Michelle Roberts returned to SUNYIT to speak in an accounting class taught by Scott Gorgas ’91 G’02 as part of the Alumni Office’s “Alumni in the Classroom” program on October 6, 2011, and was presented with a speaker’s gift from the Alumni Association in appreciation of her classroom contribution.

Fred “Fritz” Scherz Jr. ’95 G’98, Business/Public Management, MS Business Management

(09/15/2011) Fritz Scherz (photo above), Councilman on the Verona Town Board in Verona, NY, and leader of the Jägermeister-sponsored Fritz's Polka Band (FPB) from Verona, announced that another of the band’s original songs was scheduled to be included again on the hit cable TV show “Breaking Bad,” in the episode airing on October 9, 2011, on AMC. “The guys in FPB were so excited when we found out that one more original tune of ours was going to be in another episode of the ‘Breaking Bad’ TV show,” Scherz said. “We were thrilled when our song ‘Grandparent’s Polka’ was in the episode of ‘Breaking Bad’ that aired on September 4th and now to think that another one of our songs will be used is simply phenomenal.” The award-winning Fritz's Polka Band made history in 1999 when they became the first polka band to perform at a Woodstock Festival in Rome, NY; has made 17 recordings; appears on "The Manchurian Candidate" DVD released in July 2004; and was inducted in October 2010 into the Syracuse Area Music Hall of Fame.
