Alumni Association URSA-SA Presidential Pioneer Award (2006)
This special, one-time award was presented during fall 2006 in commemoration of SUNYIT’s 40th anniversary and recognizes the elite group of individuals who served as URSA (Utica-Rome Student Association) and SA (Student Association) Presidents during the college’s historic first 40 years and whose contributions helped establish and grow the college. Newspapers accounts, campus publications, and alumni anecdotes of SUNYIT’s history demonstrate that the involvement and leadership of its students were critical to the college’s evolution from a fledgling school based in an old factory to its current status in higher education. From the student government’s founding through 2006, when this award was presented, numerous milestones were reached and critical challenges successfully navigated with the support of the Student Association led by its presidents. Through this special award, the Alumni Association formally acknowledged that the SUNYIT of today would not exist without the dedication, commitment and contributions of its student leaders.
