Merit Scholarships for Transfer Students
Over 20% of new transfer students at SUNYIT receive a merit scholarship. Transfer Scholarships and eligibility are as follows:
- Presidential Scholarships $1,000 per year. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.
- Phi Theta Kappa Presidential Scholarships $1,000 per year. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. Must be a member of Phi Theta Kappa. (Limited number available.)
- Dean’s Scholarships $750 per year. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.
- Phi Theta Kappa Dean’s Scholarships $750 per year. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25. Must be a member of Phi Theta Kappa. (Limited number available.)
- Endowed Scholarships $1,000 per year. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
(most endowed scholarships have additional specific restrictions).
- Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarships $1,000 per year. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. Must be New York State residents who will make a contribution to the diversity of the student body in their program or school, demonstrating that they have overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education.
Merit Scholarships are renewable for a second year. Renewal requirements for transfer students are as follows:
- Students must maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA upon completion of their first year of study at SUNYIT
- Students must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours or more) throughout their entire period of enrollment at SUNYIT. Scholarship recipients who drop to part-time status (11 credit hours or less) or withdraw from classes completely during a semester in which they are receiving the scholarship will have their scholarship cancelled permanently.
- Students who do not achieve the minimum GPA requirement or who withdraw from classes for extraordinary circumstances will have the opportunity to appeal their loss of scholarship to the Scholarship Appeals Committee through the Financial Aid Office
