Transfer Credit
Students may transfer up to 76 lower division semester hours and up to 30 upper division semester hours.

Residency requirement: All students must complete a minimum of 30 semester hours at SUNYIT.

In assigning transfer credit, please note the following:

  • coursework offered at two-year colleges, or at the freshman/ sophomore level of four-year institutions is designated as lower division credit

  • coursework is generally designated as upper division if it is at least junior level or equivalent

Students seeking AP credit must have an official AP score report sent directly from College Board. SUNYIT College Code: 0755

A course-by-course credit evaluation is completed for every transfer student at the time that they are accepted for admission. Students seeking this information prior to filing an application should contact the Admissions Office at 1.866.2SUNYIT to make arrangements. Credit evaluations will also be completed during interviews if transcripts are available for review.

All SUNY institutions are required to have a campus appeals process for transfer students to appeal the decisions made on the evaluation of credit from their prior colleges or universities. It has also been mandated that resolution of student appeals will be completed within ten business days when classes are in session, and fifteen business days when classes are not in session. Students will be notified of appeal decisions in writing. View the Transfer Credit Appeal.
