Graduate Assistantships
Graduate Assistantships are awarded each academic year to selected students who have been formally admitted to a master’s program at SUNYIT. The assistantship awards may include a New York State tuition waiver and/or a cash stipend. Domestic students awarded a graduate assistantship must enroll for a minimum of nine credit hours of graduate coursework per semester; International students must enroll for a minimum of twelve credit hours per semester. Graduate assistantships carry a weekly work obligation of teaching, research or administrative responsibilities. The number of work hours per week will vary depending on the monetary value of the assistantship.
Graduate applicants that are interested in being considered for a graduate assistantship should complete the Application for Graduate Assistantship form. In addition to the website, the form can be found in the back section of the SUNYIT Graduate Catalog. The completed form must be returned to the SUNYIT Graduate Center by April 1st for fall consideration and October 15th for spring consideration. The number of awards each semester is subject to the availability of funds.
SUNY Graduate Diversity Fellowships
A limited number of SUNY Graduate Diversity Fellowships are awarded each academic year to full-time graduate students who qualify for admission with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better. The award includes a full-tuition waiver and a stipend of up to $3,100 for the academic year (subject to the availability of funds).
To be eligible, applicants must be US citizens or have permanent resident status, and must demonstrate in writing how they will contribute to the diversity of the student body in the program for which they are applying, including by having overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education.
Graduate applicants that are interested in being considered for a Diversity Fellowship should submit an essay responding to the above criteria to the SUNYIT Graduate Center, along with the admissions application.
