Housing FAQ

Are students required to live on-campus?

SUNYIT requires transfer students who are not commuting from home to reside in the residence halls. Veterans, married students, or those living with their immediate families are exempt from this requirement. Housing waivers may be requested through the director of residential life at 315-792-7810.

What are the residence halls like?

Our residence halls, ranked #1 in the SUNY system, are comprised of three complexes: Oriskany Hall, Adirondack Hall and Mohawk Hall. First-year students live in one of ten pods in the new suite-style Oriskany Residence Hall. Each pod shares a cool two-story lounge with a spiral staircase, study room, and building kitchen. Upperclassman live in Adirondack and Mohawk Residence Halls, townhouse-style housing featuring both single and double occupancy bedrooms as well as a shared bathroom and living room. All suites are fully furnished and equipped with high-speed wireless Internet, cable TV, telephone service, microwave oven/refrigerator unit, complimentary laundry facilities and adjacent parking.

Are the halls staffed with a professional resident director?

Yes, the residence halls are staffed with a professional residence hall director and student residence hall advisors.

Is there a deposit required to reserve a room?

Students must submit a monetary deposit of $150 to reserve a room.

How are students matched up with their roommates in the residence halls?

Transfer students are asked to fill out a room reservation form that asks questions about roommate preferences, study habits and personal habits. Students can also request a housing assignment with a specific student that they may know by contacting the Office of Residential Life.
