Eutrobac, winners of the Mohawk Valley Regional of the New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC) held at SUNY Poly in early April, went on to win the $25,000 grand prize at the recent state finals in Albany.

The company, started by Hamilton College students Ellie Sangree and Jesse Wexler, have commercialized an invention made by Sangree that removes nitrogen pollution from water.

Overall, 773 students from 58 colleges and universities participated in the 2024 NYBPC. Furthermore, more than $96,000 was awarded to 23 teams from 18 colleges and universities at the NYBPC at the biggest finals they’ve ever hosted with over 400 people in attendance.

“I was thrilled to have Eutrobac represent the Mohawk Valley region at the state competition,” said SUNY Poly Professor of Technology Management, Dr. Robert Edgell, who is the NYBPC’s regional chair for the Mohawk Valley competition. “Their grand prize win showcases the outstanding innovation and entrepreneurial spirit present in our Mohawk Valley region. Moreover, it’s a testament to the high caliber of ideas, talent, and social consciousness emerging from our local universities. We were honored to host them in our regional competition and witness the early stages of their impressive journey.”
